Ingredients

Graham Cracker Crust (Bottom Layer)

  • 4 graham cracker sheets
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

Chocolate Cheesecake mixture

Orange Oats

Directions

  1. Make the graham cracker topping. Blend the graham crackers with coconut oil in a food processor until they are crumbs. Divide evenly between three jars.
  2. Chocolate Cheesecake mixture: Add the chocolate cheesecake mixture ingredients to a small food processor, and mix until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Orange Oat base: In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine all Orange Oat base  ingredients and mix well. Set aside.
  4. Complete jar assembly: To create a layered look, add half the cheesecake mixture to each jar followed by half the oat mixture, remaining cheesecake mixture, topped with remaining oat mixture.
  5. Let oats sit in the refrigerator overnight or up to five days before serving.
  6. When ready to serve top with almonds and walnuts, fresh berries, or other desired toppings.

Helpful Tips

  • How much food coloring should I use? I used 10 drops of orange food coloring, but if you want a more vibrant orange try adding about 5 more drops, or until desired shade. For the yogurt layer you can add about 5 black drops of food coloring to get an even darker shade.
  • Want a stronger orange flavor? Consider adding some orange zest, and or 1/2 tsp orange extract.
  • What type of cottage cheese should I use? For the cottage cheese I prefer to use the small curd with 4% milk fat.
  • Do I need to use a food processor? You can mix the cheesecake layer by hand, but blending it in a food processor gives you a much smoother, creamier texture instead of a slightly chunky one. If doing this by hand mash the banana with a fork first.
  • What types of oats are best? Avoid using steel-cut oats, they will remain firm and chewy without cooking.

Sam's Kitchen Favorites

  • For this recipe, I used these 18 ounce overnight oat jars with lids.
  • I love these silicone mixing spoons. No more scraping the bowl, and the food doesn't stick to them!
  • My go-to angled liquid measuring cup . After multiple runs through the dishwasher, the numbers have not worn off.
  • For permanently engraved measurements, these measuring cups are fantastic!
  • For a more professional yet affordable mixing bowl, these stackable bowls with measurement marks work perfectly.
  • Food Processor. I recommend this for quickly turning graham crackers into fine crumbs, chopping nuts, blending ingredients, making sauces, and so much more.
  • Acacia Wood Cutting Board. I use this board in many of my recipe photos to display my overnight oats. I love the warm wood finish because it creates a simple, natural background that helps the jars and layers of oats stand out. It’s also reversible and can be used as a cutting board, charcuterie board, or serving board, making it a versatile piece to have in your kitchen.
